BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Houston

Officially opened on 25 July 2004, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a traditional Hindu temple located in Stafford, Houston, Texas. The 73-foot high, 125-foot long, and 95-foot wide Mandir is the first of its kind in North America. It is constructed according to the Indian ancient architectural scriptures over 5000 years old.

The Mandir is comprised of 33,000 pieces of marble and limestone that were hand-crafted in India by 2,400 artisans. The pieces were then shipped into the country and fitted together in a tongue-and-groove manner like a 3-D jigsaw puzzle. No single piece of steel or iron was used in the construction of the entire structure.

While the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a place of prayer and worship for Hinduism adherents, it is open to visitors who are looking to learn the various doctrines of Hinduism. It boasts a marvelous exhibition that presents the magnificence of Hinduism and the major contributions by India in various fields.
